Enjoy the tropical paradise on the beaches of Punta Cana
A trip to Punta Cana must include long days at the beach, scuba diving or snorkeling sessions in the clear waters of the Caribbean, or long walks along the coast listening to the sound of the ocean and the swaying of the palm trees. In fact, Dominicans themselves consider their beaches to be the country’s greatest attraction, along with the spectacular green spaces. Below is a selection of the beaches you must visit on your next getaway to Punta Cana.
Playa Macao
In the north of the Dominican Republic is one of the most beautiful virgin beaches of Punta Cana, the beach of Macao. Far from the tourist centers and urban areas, it is the perfect getaway to enjoy a day of rest far from the hustle and bustle. The north also has better waves for water sports such as surfing. The restaurants are Macao known for serving some of the best Dominican seafood dishes, such as fresh caught lobster.
Playa de Arena Gorda
It is believed that its name refers to its wide sandbank, since like the other beaches in Punta Cana, Arena Gorda seduces travelers with its large area of white sand and turquoise waters, unique in the Caribbean. Located next to the main resorts on the island, it is the perfect place for those seeking a lively and cosmopolitan atmosphere. Along with water sports, its scenery and length make it perfect for a relaxing horseback ride or resting in a hammock under the palm trees. Among other things, this beach is known because on its coast is found the Astron, a Russian ship that wrecked and can be visited today on a scuba diving excursion.
Uvero Alto
A long horizon of green coconut palms, intense blue waves and kilometers of fine golden sand are the ingredients of this beach, perfect for a day of sun and unplugging. One of the advantages of this coastline is that it has a reef close to the coast where the waves break, perfect for surfing or windsurfing. You will find several schools along the beach where you can rent all the necessary equipment. Uvero Alto beach is also perfect for snorkeling and discovering the rich underwater biodiversity of the area.
El Cortecito
The peace and quiet of its waters and how close it is to the main resorts and hotels of Punta Cana make El Cortecito the perfect getaway for a family day at the beach. Located in the Costa del Coco area, next to the enchanting fishing village of Cortecito, it is one of the beaches with the greatest variety of services available. There is nothing better after a day of sun and water sports than seeing the beauty of a small city, with seafood and international restaurants and lively streets in the center, where you will find craft and souvenir shops. There are many delicious local restaurants with excellent ocean views, ideal for watching the beautiful sunset.
Cabeza de Toro
Between the Caribbean and the immense Laguna Bávaro is one of the most beautiful beaches on the eastern coast of the Dominican Republic: Cabeza de Toro, which gets its name from its shape. This tourist beach, certified with a Blue Flag, has calm, shallow turquoise waters, perfect for fishing and snorkeling with the littlest ones in your family. Welcoming and calm, it also has several local craft stands, as well as restaurants with wonderful culinary offerings for all tastes.
Cabo Engaño
Between Punta Cana and Bávaro, just 30 minutes from the airport, is this haven of peace and sand. Its more than 64 kilometers of Caribbean coast, fine white sand and spectacular coconut palms are ideal for long, romantic walks. One of the most popular activities on this coast is birdwatching, since Cabo Engaño has rich biodiversity. Without a doubt, it is a fantastic excursion for those who wish to spend a day away from the all inclusive resorts, surrounded by exuberant natural beauty.
