Every night, the Pelourinho and Rio Vermelho offer a great selection of spots to have a drink, chat or dance to the rhythm of the best DJs.
The nightlife in Salvador de Bahia is an authentic celebration of life and diversity. When the sun goes down, there is a whole array of parties in the streets, restaurants and bars. Fun is the main ingredient of Bahia nights: straightforward people, cozy, picturesque spots and the bubbly rhythm of good Brazilian music: samba, salsa and forró. The most emblematic neighborhood for going out is the Pelourinho, the old area, where you can hear live music every night. Many prefer Rio Vermelho, the bohemian neighborhood, with its traditional restaurants and cultural bars where artists of all genres gather. However, if you want to experience an authentic Brazilian party, you can’t miss the Bahia Carnaval. To enjoy your visit, we suggest you stay at the Grand Palladium Imbassaí Resort & Spa, located a short distance from the vibrant nightlife of Salvador.
O Cravinho
This emblematic bar, located in the Pelourinho neighborhood, has made its own varieties of spirits for more than 36 years. Founded in 1987 by Julival Santos, the venue was meant to be a meeting place to enjoy the flavored cachaças that his ancestors drank. That was the origin of Cravinho, a drink containing cachaça, clove, honey and lime, and the Senzala, made of cachaça, wine, catuaba, jatoba, honey and lime, two of the drinks most popular among the regulars at O Cravinho. Over time, the venue has grown and it now offers four areas: Cravinho, the tavern where the spirits are still aged in barrels; Jatobá, a second more sophisticated space; Cachaçaria, with a joyful and festive spirit; and Senzala, which is the VIP area.
Bar Hopping in the Rio Vermelho bohemian neighborhood
Considered the bohemian neighborhood of Salvador de Bahia, Rio Vermelho bustles with activity morning to night. Writer Jorge Amado and his wife lived there, where they welcomed figures like Pablo Neruda, Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir. When there is good weather, the terraces fill with tables where people of all ages drink, eat and chat. At its restaurants you will find the best traditional Bahia cuisine, and at its bars the most seductive rhythms for dancing until the sun comes up. In Rio Vermelho, the party is 24 hours a day. In fact, at Mercado do Peixe you can get a snack at any time of day or night to recharge and keep having fun.
Bar Oliveiras
The neighborhood of Santo Antônio Além do Carmo has one of the most emblematic bars of Salvador de Bahia, Bar Oliveiras. Its founder, Flávio Oliveiras, was one of the greatest cultural innovators of Salvador de Bahia, and he was able to bring together the best artists in the city, every night. His brother has managed to maintain the essence of this meeting point for culture lovers and every night continues to offer musical gatherings, art exhibitions and live concerts of samba, jazz, ska and forró groups, as well as from other genres. It’s an event you cannot miss if you want to dive into the bohemian culture of the city.
Bombar
Bombar, located in the vibrant neighborhood of Rio Vermelho, offers a different experience to those looking for a calm evening and those who want to enjoy an authentic night of partying. At this establishment, you can try delicious Bahian food, drink a cocktail, listen to live music or dance on the floor to the rhythm of the best DJs. It also has different areas depending on what you feel like. You can choose between a calmer area with outdoor seating and a club where the best shows in the city are held on the weekends.
Bar Beco dos Artistas
Run by filmmaker Ary Rosa and his partner Henrique Barbierie, Bar Beco dos Artistas has programs focused on the LGTBIQ+ collective, but they are open to all audiences. At the venue, you will find exhibitions, drag shows and contests, samba and feijoada from early morning Thursday through Sunday. It is a meeting point to celebrate life in a fun and diverse environment.
Bahia Carnaval
If you really want to have the experience of an authentic Brazilian party, the best idea is to try to make your visit coincide with the Carnaval of Salvador de Bahia. This party is more than just a celebration. It is a cultural event that reflects the region’s rich African heritage. Though it shares similarities with the famous Carnaval of Rio de Janeiro, the Carnaval of Salvador stands out for offering a unique experience full of music, dance and joy. Every day, trucks equipped with sound equipment and live bands visit the main neighborhoods, accompanied by charangas and dance groups. The events are free so anyone can join the big party and celebration. However, there are paid options for those looking for a more exclusive experience with better views and comforts. You can see all the information on the official carnaval site.
