Dream viewpoints, volcanic beaches and fun beach bars await you on the amazing coast of Tenerife.
Tenerife, known as "the sun of Europe," stands out for its spectacular coasts. The north features characteristic volcanic sand beaches, lush vegetation, and charming villages showcasing traditional architecture. The more touristy but equally captivating south boasts kilometers of fine white sand beaches perfect for enjoying the sun and the best leisure options.
El Médano and La Tejita Beaches
The south of Tenerife offers two beach options for water sports lovers: El Médano, hosting various windsurfing and kitesurfing championships, and La Tejita, a delightful volcanic beach with views of the majestic Red Mountain (an ancient reddish crater). El Médano has two distinct areas: the one farther from town is perfect for sports, while the part closer to the urban center is preferred by families. La Tejita, a peaceful one-kilometer-long beach connected by road to El Médano and the fishing village of Los Abrigos, has a small nudist cove and one of the most iconic bars, Chiringuito Pirata, known for its great atmosphere and simple dishes.
Playa de las Teresitas
Las Teresitas is the most emblematic beach of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This postcard cove is protected by a breakwater that creates a natural pool, making the waters safer and suitable for swimming. Additionally, its impressive strip of golden sand imported from the Sahara, protected with palm trees and green areas, is ideal for families to enjoy building sandcastles or playing in the shade. Located in the island’s capital, it has all the services you need, so you only have to worry about bringing your swimsuit and sunscreen.
Los Guíos beach
Located in Santiago del Teide, Los Guíos is the favorite destination for marine life enthusiasts and water sports lovers. This small bay in the Teno Rural Park stands out for its impressive cliffs and wild nature. Additionally, children can enjoy watching dolphins and whales swim almost all year round. The cetaceans always swim in pods, so with a bit of luck, you can see several specimens playing or communicating with each other.
Playa de El Bollullo
El Bollullo combines the feeling of being on a pristine beach with fine volcanic sand with the comforts of a resort: a charming beach bar and the option to rent sunbeds and umbrellas. Although it is completely safe for swimming, it is advisable not to venture too far into the sea, as there are often currents that can be dangerous.
Access to the beach is limited. You can walk from Puerto de la Cruz in about forty-five minutes or from El Bollullo restaurant (in the El Rincón area), via a short stepped path. On the way to the beach, you can enjoy magnificent views of Teide, adding a special touch to the experience.
Playa de Benijo
Located at the far northwest of the island, away from the main tourist centers, Benijo captivates with its lush natural wealth and untamed character. To reach it, you’ll have to walk about fifteen minutes from the parking lot along paths and stairs. However, we assure you the relaxed atmosphere and spectacular views are worth it. Surfers love the beach due to the quality of its waves. However, due to the currents and sea conditions, it’s important to be cautious when swimming. The sunsets are magical, especially when the swell of the sea mixes with the red horizon and the silhouettes of volcanic rocks emerging from the depths of the sea.
Playa de las Vistas
The Playa de las Vistas, in the municipality of Arona, is an ideal destination for family enjoyment. The pleasant temperature of its calm waters and its proximity to the island's main tourist infrastructure make it a favorite destination for vacationers and visitors from all over the world. Proof of this is that, for several years, the European Environmental Foundation has awarded it the Blue Flag distinction. This beach also features lifeguard services, showers, bathrooms, various leisure activities, and terraces with a great atmosphere. To make it even more special, Las Vistas surprises with a small artificial island from which a fountain spurts sea water into the sky, creating a unique image. Access by car is very easy and it also offers a pleasant walk along the sea with a wide variety of shops and restaurants where you can enjoy the local cuisine.
Playa Las Gaviotas
Nestled at the foot of the Anaga massif, very close to Las Teresitas, Playa Las Gaviotas is a haven of peace and natural beauty that remains far from the crowds. Located in the town of San Andrés, a few kilometers from the island's capital, this volcanic sand beach is surrounded by spectacular cliffs that give it a wild and unique look. With approximate dimensions of 260 meters long by 40 meters wide, Playa Las Gaviotas offers a perfect space to enjoy nature in its purest state.
