Practical information
Ibiza is pure Mediterranean essence, an island that invites you to get lost in turquoise blue coves, pine forests and hippie markets. However, as on any trip abroad, it’s important to keep in mind some details so your vacation is a success.
FAQs
-
What documentation do I need for traveling to Ibiza?
If you are a European citizen, all you have to bring with you is a national ID or current passport. (It’s also a good idea to have your European Health Insurance Card.) If you are from a non-European country that doesn’t require a visa and your stay is less than 90 days, you will need a valid passport. For tourists from other countries, the best option is to visit the Spanish embassy and request information about all the necessary steps and documents, or visit the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
-
Do I need travel insurance to travel to Ibiza?
Medical care in the event of an emergency is guaranteed for everyone. It is recommended that you travel with an international health insurance policy, especially if you aren’t a European citizen. In the event of a medical or of other emergency, call 112, a free telephone number that works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and has a translation service available for 80 languages.
-
Is it dangerous for my health to travel to Ibiza?
No, not at all. According to the Ministry of Health, you don’t need any vaccination or special precautions related to health. In the summer the sun is intense, so it is a good idea to use high SPF sunscreen, wear a hat and cool clothing, and to hydrate frequently throughout the day.
-
How do I pay for things in Ibiza?
The euro is the legal tender in Ibiza. You can check its official value on the European Central Bank website. Most establishments accept payments by cash, credit/debit cards (mainly Visa and Mastercard). However, it’s advisable to travel with a small amount of cash, since some small businesses accept only this method of payment.
-
What are the time zones in Ibiza?
The time zone that corresponds to Ibiza is UTC/GMT+1 in the winter and UTC+1/GMT+2 in the summer. The time is the same as that in Madrid, the country’s capital, or in any of the other autonomous communities of Spanish territory, with the exception of the Canary Islands.{ut}
-
What language do they speak in Ibiza?
Spanish and Catalan are the two official languages on the island. If you do not speak either of these, don’t worry. Most hotel staff speak the most widely used international languages: English, French, German and Italian. Remember to learn some simple Spanish or Catalan phrase. As well as being a sign of respect, it will be very useful to you in getting around in Ibiza.
-
What should I pack to visit Ibiza?
Your luggage will depend largely on the time of year you are traveling. The summer is hot and humid, so we recommend cool clothing for the day and a jacket at night. In the winter, the temperature is mild, but it goes down at night, so it’s important to bring warm clothes. You’ll also need adapters to connect or charge your electronic devices at 230 V. The plugs and outlets you’ll find in Ibiza are type C and F.
