IS IT SAFE FOR MY HEALTH TO TRAVEL TO TENERIFE?
Of course! You don’t need to take any preventative measures of any kind or get any specific vaccines, unless you come from part of the world where there has been an outbreak of disease or similar epidemic. If you’re a European citizen with a European Health Insurance Card, any medical expenses you encounter while you’re here will be reimbursed. We recommend you speak to staff at your hotel and local restaurants you dine in during your trip if you have any dietary requirements, intolerances or allergies. -
WHAT DOCUMENTATION DO YOU NEED TO TRAVEL TO TENERIFE?
Tenerife is one of the provincial capitals of the Canary Islands Autonomous Community, which makes it part of Spain and Europe. If you’re visiting from a country within the European Union, all you need is your official identity card. If you prefer to use your passport when travelling, it will be equally valid, but not essential. However, you will need your passport if you’re travelling from a country outside the EU. We recommend you always keep it in a safe place. If you’re staying for under ninety days and you’re coming from a European country, Norway or Iceland, you won’t need any visas. But, if you want to stay for longer, you’ll need to apply for a resident’s permit that covers the first thirty days. -
PAYING FOR THINGS IN TENERIFE?
The legal currency in Tenerife is the euro, just like the rest of Spain. You won’t have to change any of your money unless you’re coming from a country outside the eurozone. You can use cash to pay for things and cover all your expenses. However, we always recommend you don’t travel with huge amounts in cash and, wherever possible, use your credit or debit cards instead. Visa, MasterCard and American Express are widely accepted. -
WHICH TIME ZONE IS TENERIFE IN?
Tenerife is located in the Atlantic, so it can be found within the UTC/GMT+0 time zone. As a result, the time in Tenerife is the same as a number of other European countries, including Portugal and the United Kingdom. The time difference compared to Madrid, for example, is -1 hour. -
WHAT LANGUAGE DO THEY SPEAK IN TENERIFE?
The official language of Tenerife and all the Canary Islands is Spanish. However, everyone working in the tourism industry on the island will certainly be able to communicate fluently in other world languages, especially English and German. -
WHAT TO PACK IN YOUR SUITCASE BEFORE TRAVELLING TO TENERIFE?
It all depends on what time of year you’re visiting but, under normal circumstances, the temperatures are very summery all year round. Packing clothes you can wear in temperatures between 15ºC and 30ºC will be perfect. The nights can be somewhat cooler on the island and, because of the proximity to the ocean, the humidity levels can leave you feeling slightly cooler once the sun has set. But with a light jacket, you shouldn’t have any problems. We also recommend you pack plenty of sun cream at the right factor for your skin tone and tolerance to UV rays. Make sure you apply it frequently. Similarly, you’ll need 230-volt plug adaptors to connect and charge all your electronic devices if your plugs at home aren’t the same C, E or L types.
