Tenerife is one of the provincial capitals of the Canary Islands Autonomous Community, which makes it part of Spain and Europe. If you’re visiting from a country within the European Union, all you need is your official identity card. If you prefer to use your passport when travelling, it will be equally valid, but not essential. However, you will need your passport if you’re travelling from a country outside the EU. We recommend you always keep it in a safe place. If you’re staying for under ninety days and you’re coming from a European country, Norway or Iceland, you won’t need any visas. But, if you want to stay for longer, you’ll need to apply for a resident’s permit that covers the first thirty days.
