LUXURIATE IN OUR HOTEL IN MENORCA

Palladium Travel Guide for Discovering Menorca

If you’ve never experienced the Mediterranean or Spain’s wonderful Levante Coast, you’re missing out on the chance to visit one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in the region, the Balearic Islands. Although the islands of Majorca and Ibiza usually get the most attention from holidaymakers, the island of Menorca is a small but stunning treasure just waiting to be discovered! In our brief guide to the island, we’ll help you do it all, sharing all the best practical information you need to know before and during your trip.

Practical Information

  • WHAT DOCUMENTATION DO YOU NEED TO TRAVEL TO MENORCA?
If you’re a European citizen, all you need is a valid national travel identity card or your passport. If you’re from a non-European country without visa restrictions and you’re staying for less than ninety days, again, all you need is your passport. For tourists from other countries, your best option is to visit the Spanish embassy in your home country and ask for specific information, or else visit the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website.
  • IS IT SAFE FOR MY HEALTH TO TRAVEL TO MENORCA?
Yes, of course! You don’t need to take any special precautions in terms of your health or get any vaccines before you travel. Nor are there any specific risks of natural disasters, dangers to your personal safety or any kind of political instability. It is an entirely safe destination in every way.
  • WHAT TO PACK IN YOUR SUITCASE BEFORE TRAVELLING TO MENORCA?
If you plan on spending time outdoors, sun cream is an absolute-must and we recommend applying it regularly, whether you’re spending the day on the beach or exploring the local region. You’ll also need 230-volt adaptors to connect and charge your electronic devices. The plugs and sockets you’ll find in Menorca are C, E and L type. And besides your swimsuit, we also recommend you fill your suitcase with fresh clothes in light colours. Avoid synthetic materials as far as possible, which doesn’t always allow your skin to breathe properly, choosing cotton or natural fabrics instead. If you want to bring some warmer clothing just in case, something light to throw on will be enough. If you plan on exploring some walking or hiking routes through the island’s central region, make sure you’ve got appropriate footwear for walking comfortably and safely.
  • PAYING FOR THINGS IN MENORCA
The legal currency in Menorca is the euro. You won’t have to change any of your money unless you’re coming from a country outside the eurozone. You can use cash to pay for things and cover all your expenses. However, we always recommend you don’t travel with huge amounts in cash and, wherever possible, use your credit or debit cards instead. Visa, MasterCard and American Express are widely accepted.
  • WHICH TIME ZONE IS MENORCA IN?
Menorca is located in the Mediterranean, so it can be found within the UTC/GMT+1 time zone. The time in Menorca is the same as in Madrid, the capital of Spain, and in all other autonomous communities across the country, except for the Canary Islands.
  • WHAT LANGUAGE DO THEY SPEAK IN MENORCA?
There are two official languages in Menorca and in all the Balearic Islands, Spanish and Catalan. Each of the islands in the Balearics, including Menorca, have various Catalan sayings and local dialects that transform traditional Catalan into its very own local version. If you don’t speak either of the two languages, almost all staff working in the island’s tourism industry will be able to communicate with you in other widely-used international languages, including English, German and French.
