Palladium Hotel Group supports numerous measures to minimise its environmental impact, fight climate change and boost sustainable development. To achieve this, we encourage several initiatives involving customers, staff members, suppliers, and the local community.

COMMUNITAS, protecting the community

In partnership with National Geographic Creative Works, we have joined forces with the initiative by the marine biologist and National Geographic photographer, Manu San Félix, to raise awareness of the need to protect our seas and oceans. Through his documentary, COMMUNITAS, proteger en comunidad, Manu San Félix argues that successful conservation of the Mediterranean is only possible if everyone joins in the effort. In addition, he underlines the need for pedagogical work, and through his educational programme “Dive Camp”, organised from Vellmarí, he raises environmental awareness among the youngest children.

Renewable Energy Project

With a focus on conservation and the importance of using renewable energy in operations, Grand Palladium Jamaica built the largest solar photovoltaic system in 2014 generating 1.6MV of electricity. The solar plant was expanded in 2019 with an additional 1MW of capacity and currently generates more than 2.6 MW of power. The plant is estimated to produce 2,200,000 kWh of electricity per year, 15% of the hotel's energy consumption.

Agricultural Production Centre

The Agricultural Production Centre project in Imbassaí aims to broaden the environmental cultural vision in the region, providing the community with courses on environmental education, meliponiculture (the breeding and management of native stingless bees) and sustainability to optimise production and care for the planet at the same time.

Jamaica’s turtles and waters are protected by the “Wildlife Protection Law of 1972”. From May to December, turtles, which are in danger of extinction, come onto the beaches to lay their eggs, particularly on the Las Brisas beach. During the nesting season, Palladium Hotel Group carries out activities to identify and protect the nests and help release these animals.

Since 2012, Grand Palladium Kantenah Resort & Spa has managed the operation and set up of a turtle camp during the nesting season. The operation of the turtle camp involves spawning inspection and monitoring, and subsequent relocation out of the reach of predators.

In Costa Mujeres, flora and fauna monitoring is carried out every year throughout the property by external specialists, in order to report on the environmental conditions of the ecosystem. The distribution and abundance of various animal and plant species are used as indicators.
