Grupo Empresas Matutes, committed to the transformation of Playa d’en Bossa in Ibiza

Grupo Empresas Matutes (GEM), owners of Palladium Hotel Group, has recently presented an ambitious plan, “Plan de Excelencia,” that will turn Playa d’en Bossa in Ibiza (Spain) into a premier tourist destination in the Mediterranean. This project is the continuation of the Group’s innovative model that was initiated with the renovation of its beachfront properties, Grand Palladium Palace Ibiza Resort & Spa, followed by Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel, in addition to favoring less seasonality on the island by offering a diversified and balanced supply of alternative products.
Grupo Empresas Matutes reaffirms its commitment to quality tourism in Ibiza that included the conversion of the Grand Palladium Palace Ibiza Resort & Spa into a 5-star hotel, and the opening of Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel during summer 2011. The latter has given the Group numerous accolades thanks to an innovative concept that has helped revitalize Playa d’en Bossa while becoming a model of hotel transformation. The “Plan de Excelencia” responds to the growing demand of customers with a higher purchasing power and represents a unique opportunity of historical proportions to turn the island into a premier destination.  
The next phases of the project will take place during the next six years and will probably end by 2018. During the construction phase, close to 1,900 jobs will be created offering small and medium size companies great business opportunities.
The Group wants to promote quality tourism on the island with an investment of almost 300 million euros which will be 100% financed with private funds. With this “Plan de Excelencia,” GEM will now offer complimentary tourist services and facilities that include a shopping center, office buildings, a large parking lot, green areas, a sports center, as well as numerous safe family-friendly entertainment options.
With this Plan, Grupo Empresas Matutes will help regenerate and reclaim the area while directly contributing to the creation of 50,000 m2 of brand new public roads, 56,400 m2 of green areas and 135,000 m2 of public spaces.
The first phase entails the construction of a shopping center housing a series of establishments which will open throughout the year.  The creation of this new business area will favor less seasonality on the area thanks to a great selection of food, fashion, beauty and family entertainment services, giving priority to Ibiza’s businesses.
After the success of Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel as a groundbreaking hotel concept and an innovative clubbing initiative recognized all over the world, the Group has also decided to gear all of its efforts to catering to a new target of tourists in the area.  The Ushuaïa Tower project will completely turn the former Fiesta Hotel Playa d’en Bossa into the Group’s flagship of this new initiative while creating 181 luxury rooms in Ibiza.
This ambitious plan will also include a public 18-hole golf course, a shooting range and a golf school.  The golf course, which has been reduced to 50% of the original proposal, will feature lots of options for all types of players and will help favor the development of other tourist activities in the area.
The “Plan de Excelencia” will also feature a pedestrian and bike overpass that will connect Sant Jordi and Playa d’en Bossa; the continuation of a long bike and pedestrian lane that ends at the beach, and 56,402 m2 of green areas with several children playgrounds and public pedestrian trails that will be handed over to Sant Josep’s local government. 
The Group will also build a new Sports Zone on the other side of Playa d’en Bossa Avenue by relocating the current sports and recreational activities areas at Fiesta Hotel Don Toni and Fiesta Club Don Toni. This new sports complex will be built on a 12,374 m2 plot and will complement the services found at the new shopping center. Lastly, Grupo Empresas Matutes will also develop a Business Park to centralize its services.
