Located at the Grand Palladium Imbassaí Resort & Spa (Bahía), the Imbassaí Institute is a non-profit organization founded in 2005 as the "social partner" of the Imbassaí Natural Reserve. Its main objective is to facilitate the implementation of social and environmental initiatives in order to achieve sustainable tourism.
Since its foundation, the Institute has been running more than 200 initiatives with the support of the GP Imbassaí. Environmental measures include the design and implementation of educational programs, the installation of organic waste processing plants and the construction of plants nurseries, amongst others. In order to promote the participation of the local population in the benefits of tourism development, several social projects have been developed including professional training programs to help create business models that generate new sources of income, human and social capital learning programs, as well as the strengthening of institutional capacities. All this has been made possible thanks to the support of the Institute’s partners, including local associations, cooperatives, public schools and regional authorities.
