Green Expo 2012 at the Grand Palladium Resorts in Riviera Maya, Mexico

The Grand Palladium Resorts in Riviera Maya, Mexico, will host the 5th edition of Green Expo 2012, which will be held between May 31 and June 2, 2012.

During recent years, the environmental issue has gathered great relevance in the development of cities, businesses and our personal lives. Nowadays, there are more initiatives that help raise awareness about environmental problems amongst the population and create alternatives that reduce the impact of our daily activities.
Green Expo 2012 aims to provide the tourism sector with a special forum where participants can network, observe and discover what is being done in Mexico for the preservation of its natural and cultural resources. The Grand Palladium Resorts in the Riviera Maya are aware that the future of tourism lies in the protection of the environmental and social surroundings. Therefore, it is important to include diverse economic, ecological and social sustainability strategies in its management programs in order to guarantee the ethical commitment the Resorts have with all its stakeholders and with the incredible ecosystems and cultural heritage that characterize our surroundings as a privileged destination.
Starting with its environmentally responsible architecture, we should point out that 87.1% of the grounds are preserved natural areas, out of which 14% are mangroves. In addition, the Resorts support local initiatives such as WWF’s program that promotes low-carbon tourism, calculating the emissions of GHG through EarthCheck certifications, evaluating environmental aspects and impacts, the correct management of energy, water and urban solid waste, as well as waste reduction strategies, programs for the conservation of local flora, fauna and culture, initiatives for the support of neighboring communities, and awareness programs for guests, partners, community and suppliers.

These and other measures have helped Grand Palladium Resorts in the Riviera Maya obtain certifications, awards and recognitions such as MARTI, Earthcheck Silver, Travelife Gold, Distintivo H, ECPAT-The Code and TUI’s Green Medal Award 2010.
