Palladium Hotel Group signs an agreement to collaborate with UNICEF's Balearic Committe on the rights of children

Palladium Hotel Group and the Balearic Committee of UNICEF have signed an agreement of cooperation in which all the group's hotels located in the Balearic and Canary Islands will carry out awareness and fundraising campaigns with their customers in support of the Spanish UNICEF Committee. The campaigns will take place in a total of 19 hotels (14 in Ibiza, 3 in Mallorca, 1 in Menorca and 1 in Tenerife).
Customers staying at the hotels located in the Balearic and Canary Islands will be invited to voluntarily add one euro to their bill which will fully go towards the UNICEF programs for the  protection of children and teenagers and towards the fight against commercial sexual  exploitation of children, within the framework of the "Hoteles Amigos" initiative.
Thanks to this initiative, hotels become a platform of communication and mobilization of customers in order to encourage the respect and promotion of the rights of children particularly in the tourist and travel industry.
It is estimated that between 500 million and 1,500 million children are victims of violence and around 1.8 million children suffer sexual exploitation.
UNICEF works in collaboration with businesses in the tourist sector because it truly believes that its efforts on the protection of children can have a direct and positive impact on children and teenagers all over the world.
The relationship between Palladium Hotel Group and UNICEF began in 2009 with the signing of the ECPAT Code of Conduct against the commercial sexual exploitation of children in travel, in particular for their hotels in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Throughout this year, the ECPAT code will be introduced in Jamaica and Brazil, so that all the hotels in the Americas will have the code by the end of 2013. In accordance with this Code, the company is putting training programs in place for the employees in all the hotels  in Mexico and the Dominican Republic, as well as a variety of communication and awareness raising campaigns aimed at all their customers.
