New Microsoft initiatives reaffirm Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel’s position as technology leader.
Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel will end its third season as a technology leader within the hotel industry thanks to a new collaboration with Microsoft that has seen Surface tablet computers with Windows 8 and Office 365; and Xbox 360 Kinect entertainment devices feature in the property. These products were launched by the software giant just this year and appear in selected rooms and public spaces at new hotel The Ushuaïa Tower, which opened as part of Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel in May 2013. All 85 suites at The Ushuaïa Tower, as well as various points around the hotel lobby and reception, are equipped with Kinect, which is an infra-red detection system linked to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 consoles. In addition to allowing guests to stream their favourite music, watch thousands of HD movies and play the very latest video games, Kinnect connects the Xbox 360 devices to other suites so guests can video chat with other rooms and start socialising; a concept that works well in Ibiza’s flagship party property. Selected suites include Microsoft Surface tablets with Windows 8 and Office 365 that represents a new era of devices and experiences that were never possible before giving the guests a new amazing Microsoft experience. Surface tablets also act as a second screen to watch Xbox 360 content, stream music and watch videos. Guests can also catch up on the latest news and events on PixelSense multi-touch screen tables in the hotel lobby featuring live social media streaming, all while enjoying a drink and taking in Ushuaïa’s party atmosphere. The new Microsoft technologies join a list of several other new initiatives introduced this year, which maintain Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel’s position as one of the world’s most technologically-advanced hotels.
This season, the hotel has merged its pioneering biometric and Facebook technology enabling guests and visitors to share their Ushuaïa experience on their Facebook page with just their fingerprints, thanks to new PayTouch technology. The hotel has also developed its own Ushuaïa DJ Facebook game, where fans of the renowned daytime parties can become real DJs by spinning songs and winning great prizes. The Ushuaïa Ibiza App also launched last year, where users can not only stay updated on the hotel’s latest news, events and services, but also interact with other Ushuaïa guests and party-goers and receive special offers during live events through push messages. Another new initiative is the Palladium Hotel Group / CLIC2C technology, which reads invisible watermarks and turns offline material into virtual experiences, as well as an interactive floor at The Ushuaïa Tower which transforms the elevator area into a fun and dynamic spot. In the realms of social media, Ushuaïa has set further standards in the hotel industry. At the end of the first season in 2011, the hotel’s Facebook had close to 70,000 fans. Two years later and the hotel is nearing 300,000 likes on Facebook and over 76,000 Twitter followers. The hotel’s free WiFi access throughout the hotel and at events mean that guests can also share their experiences real-time on Twitter and Facebook, helping their social media numbers to grow. Thanks to Ushuaïa, Palladium Hotel Group now ranks first in Twitter and second in Facebook among the leading hotel companies in Spain. In July, Ushuaïa also became the first club in Ibiza to trend with #UshuaiaJosef, after a competition was launched on Twitter to enjoy a day in Ibiza with Spanish athlete, writer and broker, Josef Ajram.
