Charros Festival in Puerto Vallarta

August 24, 2011 back
Charros Festival in Puerto Vallarta

In Puerto Vallarta, and all over the country, Mexicans will proudly celebrate the charro traditions on September 14th.  Horsemen and horsewomen will parade around the city center wearing their traditional charro costumes:  jackets, pants, boots, buns and beautifully decorated hats. Finely brushed horses will also be saddled with their best equipment.
The audiences will enjoy an authentic charro feast including an exhibition of the escaramuzas, women who are not only highly trained in horse”man”ship but are also recognized for their beauty, skill, grace and poise. The festivities continue throughout the day and evening with charreadas (rodeo exhibitions) including bullfights, calf roping, horse reining, charro roping, barrel racing and match races, amongst others, ending with a dinner and dance gala.
The tradition begins at an early age, as charros usually grow up in families where charrería is part of the family culture. While learning how to mount a horse, young boys are introduced to the manners, customs and traditions of the charro.
There are no better places to stay in Riviera Nayarit than the Palladium Vallarta Resort & Spa or The Royal Suites Punta de Mita by Palladium to enjoy this festival. Grab your charro hat and join in these colorful festivities that celebrate hundred-year old Mexican traditions.
