The Spanish women’s and men’s teams have won the X World Paddle Championship recently held at the Grand Palladium Resorts in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico. And if we add the fact that they also won the men’s and women’s doubles categories, Spain is without a doubt the new paddle kings and queens. Argentina came to Mexico with their “dream team” as the 2008 World Champions of the previous edition held in Calgary, Canada, but they had to settle with the second place in the team’s category for both men’s and women’s. Spaniards had such control over the game that they even had two pairs in the men’s and women’s finals in the doubles category. The winners of this category were Patricia Llaguno and Icíar Montes, and Juan Mieres and Guillermo Lahoz. Players and paddle fans who got together in the new facilities exclusively built for the celebration of the 2010 Paddle World Championship at the Grand Palladium Resorts in Riviera Maya agree that the set-up and the organization were up to the challenge of major events such as this. According to one of the winners, Juan Mieres, “I’ll remember this championship as the best I’ve ever participated.”
