The PHG Experience

Mata de São João, the Brazilian Polynesia

December 1, 2010 back
The recently inaugurated Grand Palladium Imbassaí Resort & Spa is located in Mata de São João, the most important municipality in the northern coast of Bahía, Brazil. Considered the “Brazilian Polynesia,” Mata de São João has become one of the main tourist destinations in the country thanks to its breathtaking natural settings and the wide array of services offered including resorts, luxurious ‘pousadas’ and restaurants featuring international cuisines. The coastline runs through 12 km of pristine beaches, surrounded by dunes and coconut trees, where you can find reef stretches that form natural pools. In Mata de São João you’ll also find one of the most important historical and cultural sites in Brazil, the ruins of Casa da Torre de García d’Ávila, considered the first large Portuguese building in the old colony with medieval characteristics that are unique in the Americas. The municipality also includes Villa de Praia do Forte, an old fishermen’s town that still maintains its rustic charm in addition to offering a great selection of entertainment locales. The Tamar project, dedicated to the preservation of sea turtles, is also part of this beautiful scenery, making it an important ecotourism destination in Brazil and South America.  There are other curiosities about this area such as the fact that it is the first place where coconut trees were planted in Brazil and where the first spiritualism manifestation in the world occurred. If you are staying at the new Grand Palladium Imbassaí Resort & Spa, we urge to discover why Mata de São João is affectionately called the Brazilian Polynesia and one of the most beautiful places in this country.
