According to the President of the Association of Hoteliers of Punta Cana-Bávaro, Ernesto Veloz, the region saw over 1.8 million tourist during 2008, and expect a slight increase this year.
Representing 16% of the Dominican Republic’s GDP, tourism continues to be one of the most important drivers of the economy, with over 1.8 million tourists in 2008. Improvements to the facilities and services of the hotels in the area, as well 8 golf courses and five more in construction, have only increased the popularity of this renowned tourist destination.
