Riviera Nayarit

Puerto Vallarta (Riviera Nayarit) is a municipality and touristic city in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, located in the Banderas Bay on the Pacific Ocean.
It is currently one of the most visited areas of the country; Puerto Vallarta offers its inhabitants and visitors a great number of beaches in addition to its impressive natural beauty and historical monuments and art works which attract many national and foreign tourists.
Tourism is well developed in Puerto Vallarta, as the municipality also boasts archaeological and ecological areas as well as mountains with beautiful scenery, making the area very attractive for this type of economic activity.
What makes Puerto Vallarta different from Cancun (another important tourist destination in Mexico) is that it was a traditional village before becoming an international tourist destination.

What to do

  • One of the most visited places is the famous “Malecón”: a long boardwalk on the beachfront which features dancers, mimes, musical groups, restaurants, bars and much more for visitors. In the middle of Malecón one will find the “Rotonda del Mar” a series of 7 different sculptures by Alejandro Colunga. The wide variety of stores includes jewelry stores and handcrafted items. One may try local cuisine from the stands in the park or walk around and admire the surroundings.
  • For those who like snorkeling and swimming, travel by yacht with a stop in the Islet of Arcos, where you can also enjoy the beach and the waterfalls Yelapa and Quimixto, beautiful natural wonders that delight visitors. A horseback ride in this exotic setting is a romantic and unforgettable experience perfect for couples.
  • Part of Mexico’s history during the Spanish conquista can be observed at the Colonial Era ruins, which offer views of San Blas and are a vivid reminder of the vast Spanish empire. The city itself allows visitors to witness how daily life was in a Mexican village.  You will also be able to visit La Tovara, one of the largest protected natural areas in the country and where visitors can discover the colorful and varied flora and fauna of the region.
  • The spectacular sunsets that attract visitors from all over to Puerto Vallarta are another one of its features that make it an ideal place for romance. Its renowned sunsets are the perfect backdrop for a romantic dinner with your loved one and/or unforgettable moments with friends and families that you’ll cherish forever.
